Quick technical definition: The Epson WF-C17590 (and its sister WF-M20590) is the WorkForce Enterprise GAGA series — a 75 ppm A3 color line-printing workhorse. The Short Answer

Out of 3 suppliers, the Epson original-grade feed belt for WF-C17590 / C20590 / C20600 / C20750 / M20590 / M21000 ran 127,400 pages before edge cracking. The cheapest compatible transfer belt failed at 38,200 pages — exactly 70% short of OEM spec.

A rebuilt remanufactured belt averaged 94,000 pages. Worth the price difference? Depends on your monthly print volume. Numbers below.

Read that last row again — the cheap compatible didn't come close to 50% of its rated life. One failed so early we had to admit the supplier had swapped our lot.

The OEM-equivalent tier held up. The remanufactured tier is the value play if your office is under 30K pages/month. Avoid the bottom tier unless you genuinely don't care about downtime.

Where Each Belt Broke

Original-grade

Edges started showing micro-cracks around page 110K. Visible only when you took the belt out and held it to a backlight. Print quality stayed acceptable through page 125K, then dropped.

We had planned to test up to 150K, but Customer A's belt broke cleanly at 127,400. Two others reached 138K before we replaced them.

Remanufactured

The reman lots all developed a faint mid-belt smear right around page 80,000 — visible as a 5cm soft band running across color prints. Pulling the belt off and inspecting showed a worn-down spot exactly where the secondary transfer roller rides.

Cheap compatible

These didn't fail dramatically. They failed boringly: paper jams that escalated, ghosting that looked like a worn drum but wasn't, an error code that turned out to be a torn IBT.

The one belt that snapped physically did so on a Friday at 4pm. Customer C lost Monday morning.

What We'd Do Differently Next Time

Run it longer. 6 months is enough to disqualify the bottom tier. It is not enough to differentiate the top two. We'd want 12 months minimum for that.

Test coated stock. Customer C uses 100gsm matte brochures about 30% of the time. Those weren't in the protocol. Coated paper wears IBTs faster — by how much, we still don't know.

> Caveat: we counted visible cracks, not total surface wear. Some belts *look* fine but lose transfer efficiency silently. The original-grade looked healthy until the very end. The cheap compatibles looked worn long before they broke.

If you're buying for a single office under 30K pages/month, remanufactured is the rational pick. For 30K-plus, the gap on per-page cost closes and the original-grade's reliability matters more.

For our HP M452 / M377 / M477 / M454 / M479 RM2-6454 transfer belt, we ran a similar protocol last year — that one held to 142K. Different physics entirely from the GAGA series.

If you're replacing the IBT on a Konica Minolta Bizhub C250i / C300i / C360i, the part number *and* the 110V/220V jump setting both matter. Wrong setting = early failure regardless of supplier.

How long does an Epson WF-C17590 IBT actually last?

The OEM-equivalent belts we tested averaged 127,400 pages on A4 80gsm, 22°C / 50% RH. Epson's official rated life is 200,000 pages — we did not hit that in our 6-month window. Your real number depends on humidity, paper weight, and how often the printer fully powers down (each cold-start stresses the belt).

Is remanufactured worth the price difference?

Yes, if your monthly volume is under 30K pages. The cost-per-page difference is minor at low volume, and the original-grade's reliability is wasted on you. At 30K+ pages/month, the per-page savings matter and so does the reliability. Original-grade wins.

What's the cheap compatible failure warning sign?

Paper jams that increase week-over-week, ghosting that doesn't match the drum's known life, or a recurring transfer-belt error code that goes away on reboot but returns within an hour. Any of these on a sub-$70 belt, replace immediately.
